Once, while playing tag in the field beside their house, they came across a tall peach tree, whose branches formed a hoop-like shape. The smartest of the three, Somarius, suggested they play a game with it. But, in the end, it was Boscanius who weaved a ball from the branches of a nearby willow, and it was he who suggested they try to score points by tossing it through the hoop. Somarius and Aurelius agreed, though Somarius pointed out that it was far too easy. Breaking off three branches from the tree and handing them to his comrades, he stated they were not to use their hands and the ball was not to fall to the ground, as well as the fact that they had to use the branches to score points by hitting the ball into the hoop.
The game began developing, as the three friends (mostly Boscanius and Somarius) added rules, a playing field and a second hoop. They invited others from their village to play with them. At first, everyone loved it so much the teams would consist of more than twenty people , but Boscanius decided that there were too many and lowered the amount of players to 13.
As the sport grew in popularity, even the emporer of Rome heard of it's
success. He asked the now young men to come to Rome, where they would
develope the sport further and eventually build the very first
Bounceball court, with of course, help from the emporer. He also
provided them with equipment: the first versions of Brooms, metre long
hollow poles with a wax head, a new and improved ball made of a pig's
bladder (this was quite normal in early Rome) partly filled with sand
and hoops made of steel that stood on either side of the field.
But, as the two men Boscanius and Somarius were showered with praise,
Aurelius grew jealous. He was the richest of the men, as the emporer had
not given them any money seperate from the new material, and his family
were highly viewed Senators. In secret, and by pulling varous strings,
he had managed to buy the rights to the sport and planned on selling it
for a fortune. Somarius and Boscanius managed to stop him, though it was
by slipping a deadly poison into his drink...
